Leaflets

Mainly for Fathers
When a baby dies, it often seems as if the attention is focussed on the mother and the father's loss can be overlooked.

Loss of Your Grandchild
When a grandchild dies, you have to cope with a double loss, your grief for the baby, and the suffering of your own child.

For Family and Friends
Death has no place at birth, family and friends do not know how to approach parents at this time.

About the Other Children
Some parents feel unable to mention the baby at all on their return from hospital. This leaflet shares some of our thoughts on how to handle this situation.

The Next Pregnancy
How soon to try again?  For some parents, the urge to have a baby is all-consuming, others feel they need to wait a while.

Please contact us, if you would like to receive a copy of one of our leaflets.

Printer Cartridge Recycling Scheme

By donating your laser and inkjet cartridges for recycling, you can help to raise money for Shropshire Sands.  All items are gladly received.

Remembrance Book

Have you written in the Remembrance Book at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital's Maternity Unit? If you would like to write a few words, a poem or perhaps make a drawing for your baby, please let us know and we can arrange for you to have a page from the book.  Shropshire Sands also has a Book of Remembrance. If you would like to use that, please contact us.

Remembering Your Baby

There is a list of plants for each month of the year.  If you decide to plant a shrub in your garden to remember your baby and would like it to bloom for your baby's anniversary, please get in touch with us for a copy.  PDF link available soon for you to download your copy.

Family Room at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

Did you use one of the 'family rooms' when you lost your baby? There is a 'family room' on Ward 18 and Ward 19 at the RSH. It is a small flat let where parents and their families can stay together at such a sad time. Shropshire Sands furnish both of the rooms and we are constantly having to renew items and furniture. Donations received have helped to fund these purchases and are greatly appreciated.  Thankfully, not all mothers who use these rooms lose their babies. Sometimes, they are used by mothers in long labour or for various other reasons.  So, do not worry if you are offered one of these rooms when you have your next baby.

Books for Loan

We have a good selection of books in our library and they continue to be well used.  Please feel free to borrow them at our monthly support meetings.  If you know of any books, which might be helpful, please let us know and we might be able to purchase a copy.
