If you are recently bereaved or have only recently heard about Sands, we offer you our support through the telephone helpline, the website, or by visiting you in your own home. Alternatively, you might like to come along to our 'support group', which is run by and for parents who have lost their baby. Mums, dads and grandparents come together and share their experiences. Our small and informal group meet on the second Monday of every month.
A baby remembrance service is held on the first Wednesday of every month, except January when it is the second Wednesday, at 8 pm in the Chapel at the hospital. During the service, the names of all babies who have died recently are remembered and read out.
Shropshire Sands is holding a‘tidy up’ at the Baby Graves at Shrewsbury Cemetery on Saturday 10 July 2010. If anyone could lend a hand for a couple of hours, it would be most appreciated. Many hands make light work! We will meet at the New Graves at 10:00 am. Please bring along rubber gloves, bins bags, tools and hot water, etc. We hope to be planting out bedding plants also. For more information, contact the Shropshire Sands Befriending Line below.
The Shropshire branch of Sands would like to invite you to join them on a trip to the National Arboretum, Alrewas on Sunday 18 July 2010. Coaches will pick up from Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury and Oakengates, Telford. There is no charge for the trip but a collection tin will be on the coach for voluntary donations. To book place, please call the Shropshire Sands Befriending Line below.
“On Saturday 15 May, Sharon, Simon, Rhian and Darren were pleased to attend Poppy's Party, a charity event in memory of Poppy Floyd-Reynolds. The event took place at the Beaten Track in Shrewsbury and was attended by approximately 100 people who were all there to remember Poppy and raise money for Shropshire Sands and the Neonatal Unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH).
We were entertained by a disco and a live band, and money was raised through a raffle, tombola and charity auction. Lots in the auction included a pair of Theo Walcott's signed football boots, a signed Manchester United shirt and a specially created watercolour of poppies.
Shropshire Sands, the Neonatal Unit at RSH and I (in my capacity as midwife liaison) would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to Shelly and her mum, Kim for a fantastic evening.”
